Welcome to the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra, Washington, D.C.'s first self-conducted chamber orchestra.

The Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra is an innovative 30-member self-conducted chamber orchestra that performs chamber orchestra repertoire applying chamber music techniques.  What does that mean?  That means the musicians take over the role of the conductor, which produces a highly collaborative and creative approach to orchestral performance and an exciting concert experience for audiences.

The Ars Nova is made up of members and former members of the Boston Philharmonic, U.S. Marine Band and Indianapolis Symphony, among other orchestras and the D.C. premier military bands, and performs concerts in Northern Virginia and D.C. metro area.  Our members also include other distinguished D.C. area musicians and all have trained at the nation's top schools of music.  We perform core chamber orchestra repertoire as well as standard chamber music repertoire, and have worked with renowned conductors including Cliff Colnot, Principal Conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Civic Orchestra of Chicago and MusicNow series.

We are available for D.C. metro area events, and travel to U.S. and international events, providing ensembles of varying sizes from approximately eight players up to the full chamber orchestra of 30 musicians.  Fees depend on the number musicians, length of time required, travel expenses, as well as the choice of repertoire.

Repertoire for the engagements would be chosen to fit the requirements of the occasion in consultation with our Programming Director and Artistic Director.
